Independent Sector - Shepton
Mallet Treatment Centre
Independent Clinical Services have been working closely with
Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre since it's opening
in July 2005. At first this partnership was based around the provision
of nurses for the treatment centre. However,
in April 2006 Shepton Mallet had a requirement for a locum Consultant
Orthopaedic surgeon. ICS were one of the
companies approached to provide a solution for this need. We were able
to furnish a number of suitable
candidates. After a telephone interview one of ICS's Doctors was chosen
and started an initial 3 week locum
booking.
Due to our Doctor's successful integration into the surgical team at
Shepton Mallet, as well as the positive
feedback from both colleagues and patients alike, this initial booking
was extended a number of times.
The initial 3 week booking eventually lasted almost 6 months. This
was to enable Shepton Mallet Treatment
Centre to cope with the increased demand from their PCT clients as
well as to cover the permanent Consultants
summer holidays.
On completion of the extended booking Shepton Mallet was very happy
to furnish our locum Doctor with a letter of
reference regarding his technical, clinical and personal qualities.
We are very happy to have had this opportunity
to expand our service provision with Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre
and have since had a further opportunity to
work with them. This time to place a locum Doctor to provide cover
for gastroscopy services.

Community Care - NHS Borders
Independent Clinical Services were approached by a Community
Consultant Nurse in Child Health to provide care for a teenage client
who lives in a rural setting. The care required was to enable the client
to attend college daily and intervene should sudden changes in respiratory
condition occur and to assist in mobilisation, communication and
socialising.
This was then extended after the initial 6 weeks by Social
Services to included respite care at home. This was due to excellent
and established relationships with the client and immediate family. No
other Agency could undertake this specific type of care and ICS was
the last hope.
This was a very difficult situation in terms of geography, client
needs and home circumstances due to the family being very involved
in the decision making, execution and planning of care.
ICS developed a team of nurses to work with the family on a regular
basis.
This tailored package has been so successful that discussions to
continue the care indefinitely with funding in part from the Independent
Living Fund are in process.

Interhealth / The Cheshire and Merseyside
ISTC
Interhealth Canada has been awarded contracts by the
Department of Health to build and run two Independent Sector Treatment
Centres (ISTC). The Kidderminster ISTC and the Cheshire and Merseyside
ISTC are at the forefront of these plans and Independent Clinical
Services (ICS) have been instrumental in providing clinical staff
to ensure the smooth setup, opening and running of the Cheshire
and Merseyside ISTC.
ICS provided Interhealth Canada with a tailored
staffing solution to meet their requirements. The Vice President
for Recruitment Services met with one of ICS’s Regional Managers
who took a detailed brief of requirements and within a few days ICS
was able to provide both costings and curriculum vitaes for the project.
ICS did an extensive search of it’s database to
find 14 full time orthopaedic specialist nurses so that
in May 2006 the centre opened with ICS staff at the heart
of the operation providing qualified staffing solutions
to Interhealth and the people of Cheshire and Merseyside.

Industry
- Bredero Shaw Ltd
A heavy engineering company, completing specific pipe coatings to
clients’ requirements for the gas, oil & water industries
worldwide required an occupational health nurse primarily for a short
time in August 2005, initially to perform lung function testing during
a particular phase of work. After consultation and frequent visits
with the client the benefit to their business of having a broader
Occupational Health Service was seen therefore the initial booking
of 1-2 weeks was extended and continued until April 2006.
The Client was extremely satisfied with the ICS service in terms
of the initial response to the query, fulfillment of stated requirements
and broadening of the service to suit the client’s growth in
business demands.

Nursing/Care Homes
A large,
private nursing home group was going through a difficult transition
period with one of their homes in Gloucester. There was no manager
and moral was low. After trying multiple agencies who ‘let
them down’ the home contacted ICS to cover 2 units with 2 senior
nurses with management experience. ICS has covered both units successfully
for 6 months with 100% fill rates. The client has praised the nurses
and the agency for their professionalism during this challenging
period.

Private Hospital - Capio Newhall Hospital
Capio Newhall Hospital in Salisbury needed assistance
with a nurse to work in their Clinical Sterile Services Unit. They
required an auxiliary nurse with specialist knowledge of theatres
and specifically sterile services, to sterilise and pack the equipment
used in theatres and familiarity with theatre instruments essential.
Sourcing
a nurse with this very specialist knowledge who could also work full
time for this client while they recruited and trained someone to take
up the position permanently was a significant challenge.
An extensive
search of the ICS database identified a suitable nurse with the relevant
qualifications and experience. The candidate then went on to complete
a block booking at a preferential rate for 11 months and due to the
service provided by ICS and the excellent skills of the nurse this
client has requested the same nurse for a further 3 months this summer.

Private Patient
Independent Clinical Services began working with
a patient in the community in 1999 in conjunction with Social Services.
The patient had surgery to remove a brain tumour at the age of 11
and subsequently suffered from outbursts of anger, aggression and
episodes of self harm.
Social Services approached ICS when the patient
was in crisis and requested a skill mix of 1 RNMH/RNLD and 2 Auxiliary
staff, all male, trained in control and restraint techniques and skilled
in working with challenging and aggressive behaviour.
The call centre
team quickly established that we needed to identify a number of skilled
staff with a unique insight into the patients condition and that
continuity and stability within the package of care was paramount.
ICS were able
to search the database and identify candidates that had the appropriate
skills and experience and one member of the team had known the client
for over 17 years.
Through the inclusion of ICS to compliment the service provided by
Social Services the intensity of support has been reduced. The continuity
and stability within the package of care has resulted in a significant
reduction in the number of occurrences of aggression, anger and self
harm. This has given the patient a better quality of life and social
services have been able to develop a long term package of care.
During
the years of providing staff there have been a variety of changing
needs and circumstances that ICS have been able to meet with flexibility
and sensitivity.
